As traditional holiday spirits are on the downgrade, beginning 1994 the Ilan County government adopted a new approach to bring back Chinese New Year traditions to the next generations. Through a Taiwanese flavor Chinese New Year named “Happy New Year in Ilan” to arouse Ilan people’s concern for regional culture, street decorations and folk activities such as meteor lantern, lighted trees and bridges, auspicious archways and others create a street market where local residents and guests alike can enjoy a vintage and artistic traditional Chinese New Year.
